Survey in Tuscany by the Hydrogeomorphology Research Group

The Hydrogeomorphology Research Group of the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche IRPI carried out a preliminary survey in Tuscany on January 10 and 11 in the areas most affected by the flood event that occurred on 2-5 November, 2023. The survey aimed to identify river cross sections potentially suitable for post-event surveys.
The objective of post-event surveys is the indirect reconstruction of peak discharges in ungaged catchments and the documentation of geomorphic effects for a thorough understanding of the flood event.
The post-event surveys of flash floods are part of the activities outlined in the “APPARE – Analysis and documentation of flash floods for increased resilience in mountainous areas” project, recently funded under Theme 4: Protocols for post-flood event surveys and inspections of the Bando a Cascata issued by SPOKE VS1 – Water of the RETURN partnership.
