Decree 473: early civil protection actions to cope with rainfall events that affected the provinces of Crotone e Reggio Calabria between 24 and 26 November 2016 and the ones that affected the provinces of Catanzaro, Crotone, Reggio Calabria and the municipalities of Longobucco, Trebisacce (Cosenza province) and Vazzano (Vibo Valentia province) between 22 and 25 January 2017 (Ordinanza 473)
Background
During about two months, two rain events that occurred in the periods 25-26 November 2016 and 22-25 January 2017 affected Calabria region, producing landslides and floods and causing huge damage on large areas.
Purpose
- Classify dangerous situations reported by the affected municipalities (Art. 1 comma 4 c ODPC 473/2017) according to their dangerousness, and identify the most urgent structural works to by funded (total budget: 11.621.873,28).
- Define technical instructions to design the defensive structural works.
- Assess if the proposed works have been projected according to the technical instruction stated (point 2).
Methods
Field surveys in the areas reported as damaged were carried out in order to highlight the situations demanding defensive structural works for the reduction of residual risk.
Results
Currently, the selection of the cases in which defensive structural works must be realised has been carried out. Presently, we are working to the elaboration of technical criteria to design effective defensive structural works.
