CNR IRPI-CEMADEN joint workshop on landslide modeling and prediction with physical models and related topics

Outline: existing real-time landslide monitoring systems developed in Italy, by CNR IRPI(1), and in Brazil, by GEGEP(2) at UFPE(3) and CEMADEN(4), within the CNPq project coordinated by Prof. Roberto Quental Coutinho will be described and discussed. The systems, intended to monitor rainfall-induced landslides, are operational and capable of producing daily or sub-daily bulletins containing information about the likelihood of landslide occurrence throughout the country. The focus of this workshop is to discuss the use of physical models for monitoring/early warning, specifically in urban areas. Contributions to the workshop will describe the Italian and Brazilian system, its current state of operations, and specifically the warning system developed for the Italian railway company. Additional contributions will discuss planned and possible developments of the systems, and additional topics related to landslide susceptibility assessment with physical models. Eventually, a few contributions will discuss closely related topics of interest of both parties and possible collaborations.

The workshop is part of a technical visit of the Brazilian group at CNR IRPI, Perugia, June 10-14 2024, aimed at exploring possible collaborations within the two groups.
