Melissa Sessa is a Ph.D in Political Science, curriculum in Theory of socio-cultural-political processes and international cooperation at Sapienza University of Rome. She has also a Ph.D for the Academic Class of Legal, Political, Economic and Social Sciences for the Sapienza School of Advanced Studies at Sapienza University of Rome. She is currently an Administrative Officer with the Italian National Research Council (CNR) at the Institute for Geo-Hydrological Hazard Protection (IRPI, www.irpi.cnr.it), in Perugia. She is, also, an Adjuct Professor in Sociology of Turism at the University of International Studies in Rome. She was involved mainly in: methodology of social research, theory of social and cultural processes, sociology of turism, sociology of risk. At present, she works in the conceptualization of the social risks of geo-hydrological hazard. Her main research topics include: (i) definition and theorization of the smart society and its processes, (ii) quantitative and qualitative research about the impact of smartness in the urban context, (iii) structuring questionnaire (iv) the new form of smart capitalism (v) social impact of geo-hydrological risks. She has participated in more than 30 Conferences. During her career she was involved in the organization of national and international scientific conferences such as: 11th WCSA Worldwide Conference (Brussels 2023) “The complexity of Sustainability”, the Esa (European Sociological Association) Midterm Conference for the RN24 (Helsinki 2022), and the Political Sciences Faculty Conferences (Rome 2022 and 2023). She has authorship on 20 papers including articles and book chapters. She has, also, authorship on two books: Iannone Roberta, Gurashi Romina, Iannuzzi Ilaria, de Ganthuz Cubbe e Sessa Melissa. 2019.
