Senior scientist at the Italian Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, with tecnical skills on flood mitigation risk at the Institute for Geo-hydrological Hazards Assessment

The main research activities are in the field of hydrology with specific reference to statistical analysis of extreme hydrological events. Research skills concerning in the study of models, methods and analysis with the purpose of evaluating the risk factor associated with extreme hydrological events. 

Main activities:

  • Supervisor of the Operative Unit 1.4 of the GNDCI
  • Supervisor Special Project VAPI - Floods evaluation in Italy, GNDCI - National Group for Prevention of Hydrogeological Hazards (1989-2004)
  • Italian supervisor for the Bilateral Poject CNR-CNPq Brasile for TCEV application in the basins of Minas Gerais
  • From 1998 to 2003, has cooperated with the Basin Authority of Calabria region as coordinator of a group of engineers in order to setup a regional plan for floods hazard, which today classifies flood risk areas in the region.
  • Project manager for Regione Calabria project PAI (hydrogeological Plan) for mapping of flood risk.(1999-2001)
  • Supervisor for the hydrogeological risk monitoring in 14 municipalities of the Province of Cosenza (2009)
  • Project Manager for project SMART -Sistema Monitoraggio Ambientale Real Time (2010-2011)
  • Coordinator  of GPS permanent stations in Piano Lago (1994 - 2000) and Cerzeto (2000-2010);
  • Coordinator of real time monitoring with GPS in 6 different sites in Italy;
  • Supervisor for research agreement between CNR-IRPI and RFI on hydrogeological disaster risk prevention for the south Italy railway network (2014- )

Developed software: 

  • SIVAPI software for the National Group for Prevention of Hydrogeological Hazards
  • WebGIS-RFI for remote control of floods and landslide hazards for Italian Rail Network of Reggio Calabria district.
  • AutoPW software for evaluation of precipitable water software using GPS
  • Real time MSG data analysis using DVB receiver station. 

Recently main researches are in the nowcasting of extreme events in small basins Resarch is carried out using meteorological nowcasting based on MSG, radars, local areal models finalized to real time monitoring systems for landslide and floods

Employee of National Research Council at the Research Institute for Hydrological Protection at Rende  from 1982, actually in the post of Chief Researcher.

 Professor of Degree Course in Civil Engineering at the University of Calabria Teaching : Statistic and Probability Calculation (1991-95) 

 Professor of Degree Course in Civil Engineering at the University of Calabria Teaching : Numerical Cartography (1995 -2002)
