This paper presents a tentative estimate of the duration of 2 lakes, dammed by old, seismically induced landslides in SE. Sicily. It consists basically of a comparison between volume of silting up sediments and average annual sediment yield, taken into account the relevant parameters. A further landslide-damned lake, which is known to have formed due to the strong 1693 earthquake, is used to calibrate the method. The minimal duration of the 2 lakes results of 5000 and 6500 years, respectively.
