Angelica Tarpanelli

Biography
Angelica Tarpanelli was born in Assisi, Italy, in 1981. She received her M.S. degree in Civil Engineering with excellence from the University of Perugia in Italy in April 2006. In September 2006 she received a Scholarship and successively a Research Fellowship to carry out research at the Research Institute of Geo-Hydrological Protection (IRPI) of the National Research Council (CNR) in Perugia under the project titled “Hydrological Monitoring of Extreme Events”. Since September 2012 she has been a Researcher at CNR-IRPI. In January 2014 she received her PhD in Hydraulic Engineering at University of Perugia. The title of her thesis is “Remote Sensing for Hydraulic Applications in Small-Medium Basins”.
Awards and Recognitions
- 2021: “ESA–EGU Earth Observation Excellence Award” given by European Space Agency and European Geosciences Union recognising the IRPI-Hydrology Group for an outstanding contribution to the innovative use of Earth Observation in Hydrology.
- 2018: “Copernicus Masters competition: BayWa Smart Farming Challenge” given by Copernicus Masters.
- 2017: “Florisa Melone Award” (Co-I) of the project “Monitoring extreme events (floods & drought) through discharge time series obtained from satellite altimetry”, by Camici Stefania, given by Italian Hydrology Society (IHS).
- 2016: “Best poster award IDRA” for “Potenziale dei dati satellitari per la previsione delle piene nel Fiume Benue in Nigeria “, by Tarpanelli A., Amarnath G., Brocca L., Massari C., Barbetta S. and Moramarco T. in the macro-theme “Monitoring, open-date and free software”.
- 2014: “EGU Outstanding Student Poster (OSP) Award” for “River discharge estimation by using remote sensing data in absence of bathymetry: the Po River case study” by Tarpanelli, A., Barbetta, S., Brocca, L., Lacava, T., Faruolo, M., Moramarco, T., award given by European Geophysical Union (EGU)
- 2014: “RICERCATAMENTE“ award for the best Italian young scientist in the Earth Science and Environmental Technologies research area. The award is given by the National Research Council and the Accademia dei Lincei.

Academic and lecturing

- She has directed 4 M.Sc. theses (national and international) and has been tutor of 2 PhD students. She is a tutor of scholarship at IRPI-CNR.

- She is steering committee of the “Discharge algorithm working group” for the SWOT mission.
- She is a Member of Cryosat Scientific Expert for inland water applications.
- She is Member of the Italian Hydrological Society, the Italian Group of Hydraulics (GII), the European Geophysical Union (EGU) and the American Geophysical Union (AGU).
