A public selection is published, based on qualifications and interview, for the awarding of no. 1 Post-Doctoral Fellowship for the performance of research activities related to the Scientific Area “Earth Sciences” to be carried out at the Research Institute for Hydrogeological Protection (IRPI) of the National Research Council (CNR), Main Office of Perugia (PG) of the CNR. The grant is part of the research project with the Regional Agency for the Protection of the Ligurian Environment (ARPAL) as per the Operational Agreement digitally signed on 22 January 2021 by CNR IRPI and on 20 January 2021 by ARPAL), for the following topic: “Development, management and analysis of an automatic information system for forecasting rain-induced landslides”, under the scientific responsibility of Dr. Ivan MARCHESINI.

DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM/PROJECT:
IRPI manages an Early Warning System for rainfall-induced landslides in Liguria Region (Italy). The system is based on a computational and storage infrastructure that needs to be updated and maintained both in terms of science (development of new forecast algorithms) and IT (efficiency and simplification of procedures and infrastructure developed in Linux environment). Working on the project requires statistical, IT and environmental skills. The inputs of the system are measured or forecast precipitation data and the outputs are tabular and cartographic data.
The research project is therefore aimed at updating and validating (as well as maintaining) the warning system and publishing related scientific works. It is expected that the project will enable progress to be made with regard to the forecasting capacity of the system, its operational/computational efficiency and the testing of new calculation algorithms.

Contract of one year renewable (subject to satisfactory progress). Yearly gross remuneration: €22.000,00
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
• Master Degree and PhD in Architecture, Physics, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Engineering for the Environment and the Territory, Mathematics, Urban and Environmental Planning, Natural Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Forestry and Environmental Sciences, Geological Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Economic, Statistical and Social Sciences or related areas;
• Preference will be given to proven experience (i) in web, server and desktop development, (ii) in the management of RDBMS, (iii) in the processing of geographical/geospatial and/or remote sensing information, (iv) in the management of Linux operating systems;
• very good level of English and some knowledge of Italian.

TYPE OF SELECTION: the submitted applications will be evaluated by CNR. A reserve list of accepted applications will be set up. These candidates will be invited for an interview by e-mail at least 20 days before the interview.
