The research activities of Francesco Bucci is focused in the following points:

i) Landslide mapping in different climatic, geologic and morphologic environments; ii) Production of geomorphologic, multi-temporal, and event landslide inventory maps, from basin to regional scale; iii) analysis of gravitational processes in relation to the geo-structural and geomorphological setting; iv) integration of photo-geological and field data; v) morpho-structural mapping for active tectonic studies.

In 2005 Francesco Bucci awarded the Master Degree certificate in Geology for Territory, Resources and Environment at University of Siena, with full graduating marks and honours. Francesco Bucci carried out his undergraduate mapping project in the Lucanian province of the Apennines orogenic belt of Southern Italy. In 2006 Francesco Bucci awarded a PhD position at the University of Siena. In the 2006-2009 period he has carried out his graduate research that dealt with the geometric and kinematic evolution of the High Agri Valley, a regionally very important post-orogenic graben that dissects the fold-and-thrust architecture of the Southern Apennines orogenic belt. In order to provide a natural analogue with his field case, during his doctoral activity Francesco Bucci spent a study period at the University of Athens, Greece, to investigate the geometry and evolution of a part of the Hellenic fold-and-thrust belt of Epyrus, that shares remarkable geometrical and kinematic similarties to his field area in the Southern Apennines. During his doctoral study Francesco Bucci collaborated with various researchers and other National (IMAA-CNR, University of Basilicata) and international research organization (National University of Athens, Greece). Once completed his doctoral project Francesco Bucci worked in the framework of a project aimed at the assessment, development and protection of geological heritage located in the Tuscan Mining Geopark (Member of the Global Geopark Network, UNESCO). Since 2011 Francesco Bucci is Research Fellow at the IRPI-CNR of Perugia, where he deals with the development of photo-geological techniques for the acquisition of geomorphological, geological and structural information, aiming at defining landslide hazard and risk.
